Researcher.
As a filmmaker, artist and researcher, Janilda Bartolomeu engages with (post)colonial hauntings, collective memories and diasporic cinema across various contexts – through the means of researching, (film)making and film curating. The aforementioned subjects are largely envisioned through a speculative lens, that not only documents but also activates potentialities and tricks linear time and genre conventions. At its core Janilda’s practice is about communing with immaterial entities whether she encounters them in the shape of heritage, (digital) spectres or otherwise. Anyhow, every single one of her works play on the crossroads between memory and speculation.
Janilda currently working as an audiovisual artist and curator for art and film institutions across the globe. She has collaborated with Het Nieuwe Instituut, RAW Material Company, EYE Filmmuseum, International Film Festival Rotterdam amongst more.
